I had the absolute pleasure of working with a couple who is awaiting the arrival of their very first baby. My clients wanted to have their fine art maternity session on top of a mountain near Washington, D.C. So a mountain is where we went.
While planning their maternity session in D.C., I wanted to take the creativity up a notch. I’ve been seeing a gorgeous trend go around lately using pampas grass to style sessions and even displayed in home décor. I love using colors and foliage actually found in nature to style my sessions so a pampas grass theme for this project was calling my name.
I went around to all of my local home décor stores and cleared out their dried natural aisles. I collected all the pampas grass, wheat, and palms I could find and assembled them onto a 7 ft. circular arch that I found on Amazon. Since my client was wearing a red gown I decided to purchase some dried roses to accent the design and coordinate with her outfit.

We had so much fun doing this session. This location is absolutely breathtaking. Here’s an outtake from the session when I got a little too excited about a photo. I screamed so loud and I was wearing a mask so I accidentally fogged up my camera's viewfinder!

I wanted to show you the final product from this session as well. Here are some of the artistically edited portraits I created from this fall maternity session in D.C.
Can we just take a minute to appreciate my client's gown. It was stunning, right? She found her gown on pinkblushmaternity.com.
